A timeline is a visual representation of a sequence of events or steps. It is often used to show the time relationships between events. It is also used to show the order of important stages in a process, or to display information following the natural order of events. A timeline can be considered as an alternative method for displaying information in which case it may be referred to as a ‘process diagram’. Timelines are typically linear and represent only one series of events (e.g., showing the progression from past, through present, into future).
