  1. Open your design or create a new Canva project. Choose an existing file from your dashboard or start a new canvas in the size you need. Beginning with the correct layout ensures the border fits the overall composition.
  2. Go to the Elements panel. On the left-side menu, open the Elements section. This is where Canva keeps all shapes, lines, frames and other graphics you can use to create a clean, readable border.
  3. Search for “border” in the search bar. Type “border” or “borders” to see available styles. You can also try variations like “simple border”, “rectangle border”, or “decorative frame” if you want a specific look.
  4. Choose a border style from the results. Scroll through the available Canva borders and select the one that matches your design. Pay attention to line thickness, style, and whether the border feels too heavy or too light for your layout.
  5. Click the border to insert it into your design. The border will appear on your canvas instantly. Place it roughly around your content before making precise adjustments.
  6. Position the border where you want it. Move the element to frame your image, text, or the entire page. Canva’s alignment guides help keep everything straight and centered.
  7. Resize the border using the corner handles. Drag the handles to scale the border proportionally. Adjust it until it fits the exact area you want to highlight without cutting off important details.
  8. Customize the border’s style if needed. Change the color, line weight, or transparency to match your design theme. Many Canva border styles allow basic customization that helps them blend seamlessly.
  9. Preview your design to make sure everything aligns. Switch to preview mode to check spacing, balance, and visual clarity. This helps ensure the border enhances the design rather than overpowering it.
  10. Save or download your finished design.Export your project in the format you need (PNG, JPG, or PDF). Border settings will stay consistent in the final file.
