- Open Canva and go to your Brand Kit. On the Canva homepage, open the “Brand” section in the left menu and select “Brand Kit.” This is where your brand fonts, logos, and colors are stored. If you manage multiple brands, choose the correct one before continuing.
- Check the fonts already available in Canva. Canva includes a large built-in font library. Before uploading your own file, open any design, select a text box, and explore the font dropdown to see if the style you need is already available.
- Prepare the font file you want to upload. Canva supports .TTF, .OTF, and .WOFF formats. Make sure the file is clean, properly named, and—most importantly—licensed for your intended use. Uploading unlicensed fonts can cause issues later.
- Upload the font from your computer. In the Brand Kit, scroll to “Brand Fonts” and click Upload a font. Select your font file and confirm that you have permission to use it. After uploading, the font will instantly appear in your font list across all designs.
- Make sure your Canva plan supports font uploads. Uploading your own font is available only on paid plans such as Canva Pro, Teams, Education, or Nonprofit. Free accounts cannot upload custom fonts and can only use the built-in library.
- Apply the uploaded font in your design. Open any design, select a text element, and choose your uploaded font from the dropdown. Use it for headings, subheadings, or body text depending on your layout and brand style.
- Fine-tune typography settings for clean results. Adjust spacing, letter height, and alignment to make the font look balanced. Custom fonts sometimes need small tweaks to appear consistent across different elements.
- Save your font as part of a brand style. In the Brand Kit, you can assign your uploaded font to headings, subheadings, and body text. This helps create a consistent look in all future designs and speeds up your workflow.
- Share the font with your team automatically. If you work in a team, all members with access to your Brand Kit will see and use the uploaded font without needing to upload it again.
- Check exported files to ensure the font displays correctly. Before publishing or printing, download your design and make sure the font renders properly. Decorative fonts or older formats may look slightly different in PDFs.
- Update or replace fonts as your brand evolves. You can return to the Brand Kit anytime to upload new fonts or remove old ones. This helps keep your brand identity clean and consistent across all materials.
- Always verify licensing before uploading a font. Canva requires confirmation that you have the right to use the font. For commercial projects or template sales, double-check the license to avoid restrictions or legal issues.
- Use custom fonts thoughtfully for strong branding. A consistent combination of two or three fonts is enough to build a recognizable visual identity. Keep your typography simple, intentional, and aligned with your brand.
