- Open your Canva project. Start by opening the video, presentation, or slideshow where you want to add music. Any Canva format supports audio — including multi-page designs and full-length videos.
- Select the page or video timeline. Click on the specific page or move to the video timeline at the bottom of the editor. This helps Canva understand where you want to place the audio.
- Open the “Audio” tab on the left panel. On the left sidebar, scroll until you see Audio. This section includes Canva’s built-in tracks — background music, sound effects, and genre-based playlists.
- Choose a music track from Canva’s library. Hover over any track to preview it. When you find something suitable, click once to add it to your project. The track appears on the timeline automatically.
- Upload your own music if you want a custom track. If you want to use your own MP3 or WAV file, go to Uploads → Upload Files and select your audio. Uploaded music works exactly like Canva’s built-in tracks.
- Drag the audio onto the timeline. After adding or uploading, the file appears at the bottom timeline. Drag it left or right to control when it starts playing in the video or slideshow.
- Adjust the music length to match your video. Click the audio bar and drag its edges to shorten or extend it. For multi-page presentations, Canva allows audio to continue across pages or restart on each slide.
- Change the volume for better balance. With the audio selected, open the settings bar at the top and reduce or increase the Volume slider. For background music, 10–25% usually works best.
- Use fade-in and fade-out for smooth transitions. In the audio settings, enable Fade In or Fade Out to make the music flow naturally. This is especially useful for longer videos and presentations.
- Preview your design with music. Click Play to check timing, transitions, and volume. Make sure the audio doesn’t overpower voice-over or important sounds.
- Download or publish your project with sound. Select Share → Download → MP4 Video (for videos) or MP3/MP4 if your design contains audio. Presentations with background tracks export as video files to preserve music.
